FrontPage Express "Toolbars"
FrontPage Express is probably the HTML editor most commonly used by stationery
creators. I'm sure the fact that it comes free with Internet Explorer has something
to do with this. Unfortunately, FPE is not the best program to use for stationery -
some things can't be done with this program and others are more difficult than they should
be. If you've read some of the other pages on this site you have no doubt
encountered areas where FPE does not measure up.
Unfortunately, as with every other HTML editor on the planet - it was not
intended to be used with stationery, at least not with stationery as we've come to know
it. This is not Microsoft's fault, they likely had no idea where we would take
stationery once we got our grubby little hands on it.
Since this program is used so widely, and it does have some problems it makes
sense for me to create a set of my "toolbars" for it to make stationery tasks
easier for people. Again in this area, FPE doesn't measure up to other HTML editors
as there is no way to actually expand on the program.
For a long time I didn't think there was anything I could do to make using FPE
easier - what I wanted to do with the program just
wasn't possible, but then inspiration struck. I decided to stop
bemoaning the impossible and decided instead to focus on the possible. Thus I have created some add-ons for FPE that should hopefully
make your stationery creation experience with that program much easier.
They are not actually toolbars, I just called them that for simplicity's sake - it's
far easier for me to refer to all my various program add-ons as "toolbars".
Instead what I have done is made available several of the scripts most commonly used in
stationery and formatted them in such a way as to be easily inserted and manipulated in
FPE.
At the moment there are only 8 scripts provided, but they are some of the ones in most
common use in stationery:
OE 4 Sound embed script
Background Scroll Script
Bounce Script
StatusBar Ticker
Random Quote Generator
and more
This is only the first "beta" of my FPE toolbars - I hope to greatly
expand the feature set in subsequent versions.
Don't be put off by the beta designation - there is nothing here which can harm
your computer, they are just called beta because I haven't had a chance to write a full
instruction manual yet. There are brief instructions in a readme included in the
download which should get you up and running with this package, but I haven't had time yet
to write the full manual. Check out my Arach toolbar instructions to see what I
consider "Full" documentation.
If there is something you would like to see included in my FrontPage Express
additions that I haven't already done, let me know and I'll see what I can do about adding
it to the next version. You can send me your suggestions by filling out my feedback form.
